About Steve
Steve Tomczyk started out playing electric violin, mandolin and bass pedals for a Milwaukee area band called Solar Eclipse when he was 13. It was around this time he was introduced to the music of Genesis. "There was just something different about Genesis' music that struck me. I thought of it more like story-telling. I found it a lot more interesting than the popular music of the late 70's."
By the time he was in his 20's, Steve was recording and playing original music and playing violin, guitar and keyboards doing covers of bands like Genesis, UK, King Crimson, Bruford and other British prog rock artists with various Milwaukee bands. This led to a love of not only the music itself, but of the tech-side of music and live show production that continues to grow. During the 80's Steve ran live audio and lights for several local bands, worked in a local recording studio and assisted in local remote music recording and radio broadcasts.
Steve also has a background in traditional media artwork, photography, video production and a degree in Visual Communications. "I always liked wearing many hats in my work and in the bands I was involved with." Steve's been working in computer graphics, animation and interactive multimedia development in Milwaukee since the early 90's. He creates motion graphics for corporate and educational clients and develops video and online training programs.
I saw Grand Parade a while ago and I'll remember walking away from that show saying "anyone who plays Can Utility (and the Coastliners) live is O.K. in my book." I met Jay at a Daryl Stuermer show in late 2007 in Milwaukee. This led me to their website and to see the ad they had for a lighting technician. We talked further and it's taken off from there.
"My first show with band was Shank Hall in Milwaukee on 1/19/08. It was exciting and a whole lot of fun. My brother John helped me a lot with the show. He has a similar background. His knowledge and assistance have been invaluable."
"I see a lot of technologies merging together in today's music industry and the corporate world and hope to bring that degree of technology on a smaller scale to Grand Parade's live shows...enhancing and helping generate the nostalgia of the old Genesis shows while combining that with new visual ideas."
Steve continues to study music business, performance and Pro Tools audio production online through Berklee Music. He recently launched his own location audio recording business and project studio called myriad-music.
